It was the time when Kajol was seeing Ajay Devgan and both were in their initial stages of fame. When Kajol won the Best Actress Award for her performance in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), in her speech she thanked an anonymous person who was shooting in Darjeeling then. Later it was learnt that Ajay Devgan was the one shooting in Darjeeling. Post that, stories of their linkup started in the media. The two tied the knot in 1999.
