While deciding the cast of Dil Chahta Hai , Farhan Akhtar was initially considering Akshaye Khanna to play the role of Akash, Hrithik Roshan to play Siddharth and Saif Ali Khan to play Sameer. When Hrithik Roshan rejected the role, it went to Abhishek Bachchan. After Abhishek's denial, Farhan roped in Aamir Khan. He then swapped the roles of Akshaye Khanna and Aamir Khan and went ahead with the shooting.
