Agnipath star cast and movie review

Director: Karan Malhotra
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor

Verdict: Better than Good(3 out of 5)

Amongst the first recall values for the original Agneepath is Amitabh Bachchan's trademark self-introduction dialogue of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. While evaluating its official remake, the first thing that crosses your mind is how the reinterpretation of this signature scene would be. Unlike in the original, the monologue plays pretty late in the remake, whereby it establishes Vijay's identity over merely introducing him and with such individuality and elegance that it pays a perfect homage to the original, while at the same time not blatantly imitating it. That is how a remake is supposed to be! Retaining the spirit of the original and having a soul of its own. This dialogue kinda summarizes the overall aura of the remake.

The basic backdrop remains the same. Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt) is the uncrowned king of Mandwa Island and terminates the rebellious village schoolmaster. The master's son swears revenge and grows up to be Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (Hrithik Roshan) under the wings of Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor). Lala who trades in human and drug trafficking, rules the Mumbai underbelly. Vijay uses Lala to reach Kancha and thereby reclaim his island and self-esteem.

Border was inspire for real story

The highest grossing film of 1997, Border was based on the real life battle of Longewella from the 1971 IndoPak war.

Director J P Dutta was loosely inspired by the dairy of his brother, who was a pilot with the Indian Air Force who lost his life in a MIG crash in 1987.

The film was shot on actual locations of the war with real army men participating in the shoot and using original arms, ammunition, military jeeps and Hawker Hunter fighter planes.

However the casualty count shown in the film was overstated for cinematic reconstruction and adaptation. In the actual 1971 war only two soldiers lost their lives.

It seems that Rani Mukherjee was destined for the role of Tina in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai . It was actually Twinkle Khanna for whom the role of Tina was written for. The name for the character Tina came from Twinkle Khanna who has the same nickname. After she turned it down, other actresses such as Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon, Aishwarya Rai and Karisma Kapoor were offered the role of Tina Malhotra.

Director Karan Johar never considered his good friend Rani Mukherjee for the role of Tina. In fact, Rani read the script herself and went up to Karan saying, "I'm the only one able to do this role." The film went on to be the path breaking film in Rani's career.
